The lifestyle can be blamed for the same as most of the people have a sedentary work and no time to pay attention to the health factor. Nevertheless, the need of Locum doctors is being fulfilled by recruiting firms who have a collection of good locums from all over. If you are a doctor or a physician and heading out to find suitable locum recruitment firm, then don’t forget to check out the following points that a firm must have:

  • The firm should be a known name and must be registered legally.
  • It must provide malpractice or misconduct insurance and should be concerned about whether the clients have the coverage or not.
  • The financial situation of the company should be known. If possible, you can have a look at their balance sheet to know whether it is in a position to pay off the locums or not.
  • Notice the behaviour of the representative from the firm who is on touch with you. Is he answering all your questions and queries? Is he being transparent about the matters?
  • What are the procedures of the company as far as the working of locums is concerned? How do they manage the locums when they are out for work? Is the firm responsible enough to arrange for transportation, paper work, housing etc. for the locum?
  • Before joining any firm, discuss the flexibility issues. You need to know how much flexible the company is and what are its expectations from the locums. Do not forget to discuss the leaves allowed and other such important things which will affect you in everyday life.
  • Evaluate the advantages of the firm if you join hands with them. You can enrol for a particular contract or for long term as a regular employee. Compare the pros and cons of both ways. Some firms might offer only permanent positions.
  • Do the firm provide any training needed before starting out?
  • What is the frequency with which the firm pays remuneration to the locums? Is it visit wise or monthly? Does it suits you?

Some of these things can be discussed directly with the company representative.  You can also have a conversation with other locums who are associated with the firm and they will be able to tell you the right position and working culture of the company. Also don’t forget to ask whether the firm takes the feedback of locums seriously or not. It might happen that the firm is new but if it is open to improving with the help of feedbacks, it is a positive point. You can even read the reviews of the company online where people might have written genuine reviews. Choose a firm wisely because it has a great impact on your career as a locum doctor.
